amber bottle with scrub brush and homemade dish soap

Sudsy Homemade Dish Soap

If you are, like I once was, looking for a dish detergent packed with cleaning power for dirty dishes, but gentle and moisturizing for your skin, look no further than this simple homemade dish soap!

Why You Should Try This Homemade Dish Soap.

I already mentioned two reasons… It’s quite effective on that dirt and grease, while maintaining soft hands. We do have a dishwasher, but it has been waiting on electrical connection and plumbing for over 6 months while our kitchen remodel and other home products have taken priority. Washing dishes has never been a great love of mine, but I do enjoy it so much more in the absence of dry, cracked skin!

What You’ll Need

To make this homemade dish soap, you’ll need to purchase a few ingredients. The handy part is that most of them come in bulk, so you can make countless batches! This recipe usually lasts me about 2 months. I will provide links to all the ingredients below.

Coco Glucoside – What is coco glucoside? Simply put, it is a natural surfactant derived from coconuts. A surfactant binds water and oil together. It also is a sudsing agent, creating those beautiful, foamy bubbles! Coco glucoside is free of harsh chemicals and sulfates. Meaning that it is full of cleaning power, while maintaining your skin’s natural moisture and barriers. This ingredient is wonderful for homemade cleansers, shampoos, and much more!

Vegetable Glycerin – Also a multipurpose item, vegetable glycerin is used in cosmetics, to create alcohol-free tinctures, and an endless array of other products! Vegetable glycerin is a gentle solvent, lifting and breaking down dirt and grease, while also being a moisturizer.

Citric Acid – Citric Acid dissolves limescale and hard water stains. It is naturally antibacterial and can neutralize strong odors. Fun fact, you can wash your clothes with citric acid for increased brightness and softness, as it strips fabric of detergent buildup and balances the pH.

Essential Oils – I purchase my essential oils from doTERRA, but there are other trustworthy, clean brands available as well. I love the fresh, light scent of citrus, not to mention that those oils also pack a cleaning punch!
